surviving horror

Spiegel Online has a fascinating item in today’s edition. It tells the story of an 85-year-old man named Yitzhak Ganon who avoided seeing a doctor for 65 years. You can’t blame him, seeing as how Ganon’s previous doctor was Josef Mengele and his last surgery — a kidney removal performed without anesthesia — took place at Auschwitz. It’s an amazing story of a man who survived due to sheer willpower and pure luck. Kind of gives a person hope that things really can change and get better.
