welcome to Canada. now off you go.

Apparently, Malcolm Watson better find a new country to hide in for the next three years, because Canada just grew a backbone:

Malcolm Watson, who was convicted of a minor sexual offence concerning a 15-year-old girl, was arrested by Canadian border guards while returning from a court appearance Thursday in Buffalo, N.Y.

Watson, 35, pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child and sexual abuse in the third degree.

A U.S. judge allowed him to serve his probation in Canada as part of a plea agreement.

Day said an application will be filed to bar Watson from Canada. If successful, it would render Watson’s sentence null and void, and he would have to return to court in the U.S.

People convicted of a crime are not allowed to enter the country for a certain period of time. Period. It does not matter whether or not the act involved would have been considered a crime in Canada. And everyone knows for a fact that if this were reversed, the U.S. government would be up-in-arms at the thought of Canada sending its sex offenders across the border to serve their sentence.

This man had sex with a teenage student. It doesn’t matter if it was consensual. He took advantage and he should be punished for what he did. Sending him to live in Canada with his family for three years is not punishment — it’s a sabatical.

We have enough problems of our own. We don’t need to import them in for other countries. Malcolm Watson better find a new place to live, because he is no longer welcome in Canada.
